Student Voice & Agency
Our students are getting more skilled at knowing their own learning data.
They are having conversations with their teachers about
where they are in their learning,
where they need to go and
how to get there.
All students have their own “data folder” They are looking at their data and starting to analyse it. They are reflecting on their learning which is referred to as metacognition and they are receiving Feedback from their teacher and their peers.
Metacognition and Feedback are two of the most effective strategies in improving student learning.
We are providing our teachers with extra time each fortnight so they can sit with their students and have one-to-one conversations to discuss the learning data and set some goals and strategies together.
Students will be asked to provide feedback on their progress and also keep track of their learning. The teachers and students will develop learning goals based on these conversations and track the progress.
This strategy is being implemented to ensure:
When we provide students with the opportunity to co-create their own knowledge and encourage a greater sense of ownership in the learning process their learning and confidence improves. It also reflects the process of gradual release of responsibility… empowering students to make decisions. You got to love that.
