Paul Kenna awarded a national Teaching Award

Picture
Our Principal Mr. Paul Kenna was named a Teaching Fellow   as one of 12 inspiring teachers and Principals from across Australia in the 2018 Commonwealth Bank/Schools Plus Teaching Awards .

This is a significant achievement as there was a rigorous and comprehensive selection process with over 1,500 nominations from across the country.

This is Australia’s largest award of its kind for educators.

The Federal Minister for Education and Training, Senator Simon Birmingham and Mr. David Gonski AC (below), presented Paul with his Award in Sydney.

The Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards are co-presented by the Commonwealth Bank and School Plus. These Fellowships were created to recognise and reward great teachers and Principals, especially those working in socially diverse communities.

Each Fellowship is valued at $45,000 which includes funding for professional development, significant projects in the Fellow’s school, and an overseas study tour to a high-performing education system.  Our projects included whole school mindfulness strategy; creation of a green screen room for film, animation and documentary making; establishment of a STEM program with a range of resources and enhancing our classroom I.T. resources.

“This Schools Plus/Commonwealth Bank Fellowship is amazing and I am honoured, humbled and thrilled to receive it. I am proud to be the Principal of our school, a great public school and this award recognises that our school offers all of our students a quality education.

The award acknowledges that our school is pro-active, creative and innovative in responding to community and student needs and recognises two very successful initiatives. Firstly, to receive national recognition for our innovative classroom inquiry strategy S.O.L.E. (Self Organised Learning Environments) is fantastic.
Secondly, the creation of our Community Hub which hosts two Maternal Health nurses (in partnership with Moreland Council), wonderful 3 and 4 year old kindergarten programs (in partnership with Northern Schools Early Years Cluster) as well as playgroup & first mothers group.

I share this award with our dedicated teachers, our enthusiastic students and our supportive School Council members.
Congratulations to all our community and thank you to everyone for your support and involvement in our school.”
