Environmental Learning Precinct
Part of our philosophy is that student's develop a connection with nature and learn the importance of looking after the environment. Learning should not just be limited to the indoors and to only academic pursuits - it should also include other elements. It is important that young children connect with nature. Understanding that plants need to be cared for and that they need to be looked after and nurtured.
Being in a garden allows children to relax and be less anxious. The Environmental Precinct is used to make different links with the curriculum and can be a stimulus for various aspects of English, Maths, photography, video, research, writing, drawing, art, health and the list goes on.
In our Environmental Learning precinct our students can tend to the garden, mulch and compost material, water the plants or even just sit at a table and talk to friends or enjoy a quiet time just staring at the frog pond. This area is also a quiet reflective space with a facility containing kitchen equipment, refrigerator, sink, cupboards etc.
Our Student Welfare officer uses this space for her work with our students who are relaxed and able to unwind in a stimulating environment where they can just be themselves.
Each classroom has their own garden bed to care for.

Frog in a Pond anyone?
Check out these photos from a small vegetable farm in the countryside.
An Apricot and an apple tree are bursting with fruit. In a few weeks they will be ripe for the picking (and of course for the eating)
In the garden beds are sweet corn, beans, carrots, beetroot, tomatoes, lettuce and a variety of herbs which are all doing really well.
To top it off there is a lovely shady tree that protects the waters of a quiet frog pond with tadpoles that are now growing some legs.
There are scarecrows, colourful spinning wheels and netting to protect the plants as they grow.
The chickens can’t be seen but they are coming
A tool shed is stocked with gardening tools - shovels, racks, hoes etc. and also lots of gloves. This garden has a nice fence around it which will soon be painted in lots of bright colours.
The gardens are watered by a 25,000 litre water tank that is filled by runoff from a roof.
There are nice bench seats and a picnic table to use.
This lovely community garden is right here at Belle Vue Park and is our Environmental Learning precinct.
Soon our students will harvest and eat the produce that they have helped grow. This fantastic facility teaches children the concepts of environmental care, water harvesting and sustainability. It also teaches them about nurturing things, persistence and team work
At our school, learning is not confined to the classroom.
Come and check it out.
