Principal's Message
Welcome to the Belle Vue Park Primary School website.
Belle Vue Park Primary School is located in a residential pocket of Glenroy in the City of Moreland. The school has impressive contemporary facilities after undergoing a total refurbishment in the past few years. Our facilities are fantastic - with large, light filled classrooms featuring break out spaces and meeting areas available for teachers and students - in other words a flexible, nurturing environment.
The design supports the concept of learning neighbourhoods (infant, middle and senior areas) where classrooms flow into a common shared space which allows for a variety of activities - one-to-one, small or large groups. The refurbishment projects have created a teaching and learning environment that is flexible, contemporary and can accommodate a variety of learning situations and activities.
Belle Vue Park boasts a full size gymnasium, visual art studio, literacy support rooms, maths and science resource rooms, a large contemporary multi-function library and ICT centre with adjoining breakout rooms and offices. The school also has an environmental learning precinct with vegetable gardens and kitchen which all classes enjoy. Our school also has an oral language facility to provide further support for our children in language acquisition and developmental play.
The philosophy of our school is simple - our children are encouraged to take risks with their learning, be independent and seek answers for themselves whilst being supported, nurtured and encouraged by their teachers. Our core school values of honesty, respect and tolerance underpin the actions and relationships of our students, staff and community members
Belle Vue Park is unique in so many ways. One obvious example of this is that we have created our own on-site “Community Hub”. Our Community Hub is designed to provide resources, programs and support for families on the one site and is a wonderful asset for our community. The Community Hub has a 3 and a 4 year old kindergarten, two Maternal & Child Health nurses through our partnership with Moreland Council, two playgroup (for mums and small children) and a first Mother’s group supported by the Maternal Health nurses. Recently we have partnered with RelateWell, a local family and personal Counselling service. They supply two counsellors for two days a week to support students, families etc.
Our community hub staff liaise closely with school staff to ensure all student needs are catered for and appropriate resources, learning programs and support services are provided - from new-borns, toddlers and pre-schoolers through to year six children and also support for parents and carers.
Our facilities include large open play areas, Tiger turf courts, oval and three playgrounds with large sunshades. The kindergarten runs a 3 and 4 year old program and provides seamless transition from early childhood learning to junior primary school.
Our teaching and learning is enhanced by student and staff access to substantial I.C.T. with computers and multi-media fully integrated as learning tools at all levels incorporating Interactive whiteboards, ipads, tablets, laptops and digital cameras which support and boost learning opportunities. Our staff are innovative in their use of I.C.T. and our children respond very positively to this technology. Recently the school has purchased resources to support S.T.E.M. (science/technology/engineering/maths) learning as a component of I.C.T./Science.
Our core school values are honesty, respect and tolerance. Our students are encouraged to display these values at all times and to think for themselves and make their own decisions. Our whole school focus is “community kids/responsible kids” and “random acts of kindness” are encouraged and recognised. Student Welfare is supported through our R.A.P. strategy (is it safe?
is it kind? is it fair?) Our Welfare Officer oversees a number of student support strategies and programs for students. The school has well defined student leadership roles & opportunities with school and house captains & vice captains, J.S.C. representatives, assembly hosts, student advisory teams (the Green Team; playground facilities team and S.T.E.M. team) and a variety of leadership forums & opportunities for students.
Our class organisation is based on a combination of composite and single year level classes. We are fortunate to have professional, knowledgeable and hard-working staff who collaborate in teams. Teachers follow agreed, consistent teaching processes and strategies from prep through to year six.
Our school has moved towards a “differentiated” model over the past few years with our teachers using student data to inform their planning and the grouping of students. Flexible learning groups based on student need ensure that all students are catered for at their level. Consistency across classes is achieved because all teachers plan together and implement the same evidence based strategies. We also have a well developed peer observation process for all staff and Professional Learning Teams. Our school has a big focus on professional learning and improving the knowledge and skill sets of our teachers to ensure all students receive the best possible education.
Our Strategic Plan has a focus on English, Numeracy and inquiry. Some of our main strategies are to continually monitor student progress and implement planned intervention & extension opportunities; involving students in conversations about their learning and to establish learning goals with them; ongoing improvement of our collective teaching practice through Professional Learning Teams; catering for & developing programs for EAL students; provision for boys learning; and to increase student engagement through an inquiry approach.
Our school is renowned for our development of the “S.O.L.E.” strategy - Self Organised Learning Environments and often have visits from other schools to observe and find out more about how it is used.
Student transitions are well catered for from kinder to prep and year 6 to year 7 programs. We provide a “buddy program” across all classes to ensure our students know each other well and that our younger children know older children who will be able to look after them or help them if needed. Transitions across the school are catered for with close attention given to future class placements and the sharing of student information between staff.
Parent opinion data has been very supportive of the school, with sustained high general satisfaction.
Year 5/6 students "Attitude to School" survey data is at or above the state average which is great feedback from our students indicating that they are happy, enjoy school, feel supported by their teachers and are engaged in their learning.
Our school provides excellent learning opportunities for each child in a safe and nurturing environment. Visitors to our school often comment on how calm and orderly the school is.
Please contact our school with any questions or inquiries you may have. You will be most welcome.
